  • What is energy transition?

      Energy transition is the movement from the current worldwide ecosystem of power production and provision, to a sustainable, renewable and fair ecosystem. In the case of PEP, that means moving to local P2P energy ecosystems, where power is being produced locally, bought locally, and being controlled by communities. The PEP system, not only moves power production toward a local P2P system, but over time also forces large polluting organizations toward the use of cleaner, more sustainable alternatives.

  • What are the main benefits of PEP?

      PEP enables you to reduce your CO2 footprint in your everyday life while also accelerating the transition to renewable energy worldwide.

      PEP members know:

      • Each ton of CO2 less is a little less climate change.
      • Each kWh locally produced and consumed simultaneously is a little more energy transition.
      • PEP disrupts the energy industry by allowing the local trading of energy. The future is local P2P Energy Ecosystems, with consumers paying less and producers earning more.
      • The overall vulnerability of the power supply is dramatically reduced.
      • Substantial distributed Socio-economic benefits are generated with this PEP-approach
  • Do I need my own power production (PV on my rooftop) in order to use the PEP App?

      Not necessarily. With PEP, you are very welcome as a normal consumer of electricity (most of us are). A PEP Member is part of the local and global community’s dialogue. Any consumer generates PEP tokens while consuming local P2P energy. You can use them to change your own lifestyle or sell them to someone else so they can offset their CO2 footprint.

  • What is the CO2 PEP Token?

      It is a reward token for energy consumers, generated by the usage of local clean energy at its production and from the neighbourhood. When you use clean energy, whether by producing it yourself or by buying it from your local network, a number of CO2 PEP Tokens are being created. You can then either buy them at a special price to make your own offsets, or you can sell them on the Hub and get some kickback. The value of the Token is country-specific. The number of tokens created per kWh is taking into account the economic added value of the clean tech industry, the amount of CO2 avoided and the loss of energy avoided through less grid transportations. The token has a two-fold goal:

      1. To speed up the energy transition.
      2. To reduce CO2 emissions and give CO2 a fair pricing.


  • How do I use the CO2 PEP Token?

      Once a CO2 PEP token is in your wallet, it is loaded with a CO2 emission allowance certificate. This allows the offset of any unavoidable CO2 emission in everyday life situations. Our design of the CO2 offset process makes it very easy, natural and accessible for our members to apply. With the PEP App you can offset not only your transportation footprint, but also the footprint of every day goods, such as coffee and bananas, as well as events like going to a restaurant or to the cinema.

  • How does the PEP offset work?

      It depends on your home country. We have different certificates for an offset in different continents. In Europe for example, we integrate the standard CO2 emission allowance certificate EUA (EU Allowance). While using our PEP offset you directly influence the amount of CO2 certificates in the marketplace. The more certificates are used, the less are available at the exchanges and the price of CO2 will rise more and more.

      We aim to get the price towards a fair pricing, which would be several times higher than the current price at exchanges. CO2 allowances (permits) certificates have to be bought by polluters to let them keep polluting, but only a finite number get created. By taking an allowance out of the system, the PEP Community can reduce the amount of greenhouse gases being emitted and force industry to invest in cleaner technologies or close down dirty coal or gas plants.
